Description

The long awaited reissue of the unique and only album of this legendary Mongolian ensemble. The self titled album was released for the first time on vinyl in 1980 by the Soviet label Melodia, and due to a huge demand was quickly repressed in 1981. A musical pearl in the vein of Dos-Mukasan, Firyuza, Soyol Erdene and Gunesh. Now we are happy to present a new vinyl version of the album, but this time with the correct band photo on the front cover, because the original 1980 and 1981 vinyl versions were released with wrong photos on the cover. Melodia mixed up the Bayan Mongol photos with photos from Soyol Erdene, so the original Bayan Mongol LP actually shows Soyol Erdene on the cover and vice versa: the Soyol Erdene LP cover shows a photo of The Bayan Mongol Variety Group.

The Bayan Mongol Variety Group existed from the early ’70s to the late ’80s. After the collapse of the USSR, the ensemble began to experience serious difficulties with funding and booking concerts and finally disintegrated, after which the participants lost contact with each other. Fortunately, thanks to efforts from fans, some old contacts were reestablished, key records and sound sources were dug up and now this historical record is released again. File under funk, jazz-rock, prog rock and psychedelic rock.
